TTYL Podcast #10 – Strip Search Day 8

Abby Howard, Tavis Maiden - Strip Search Day 8 podcast

Strip Search continues to get the deluxe podcast treatment on That Thing You Like. Day 8 delivered a nail-biting, edge-of-your-seat elimination matchup: The talented, hat-and-beard wearing Tavis Maiden versus the dinosaur enthusiast / young gun Abby Howard. It was a battle of two talents, as each artist aimed to prove their dominance by showing off their D*.

(*delightful comics.)

Day 8 was a day of foot racing. A day of Presidential signature forging. And ultimately, a day of laughing. Pee-your-pants, bust yo’ gut, cat-fuelled laughter. One of the elimcomics is the talk of the interwebs, and we go next level on what it means for the competition.

Sadly, because of the nature of the show, it was also a day where somebody bade their Strip Search compatriots a sincere goodbye. With this week’s elimination, we’re down to the FINAL FOUR. IN ALL CAPS. BECAUSE SERIOUS BUSINESS. Listen as we break down all of the moments and challenges of day 8, including our love of Loading Ready Run’s newly-pointed interview questions.

Plus, as That Thing You Like is wont to do, we predict the future of each artist in our official Strip Search POWER RANKINGS. We rank, and we do it with power.

TTYL #8 – Strip Search Day 7

Strip Search - Day 7, Monica vs Lexxy

That Thing You Like can’t stop, won’t stop, podcasting about Penny Arcade’s Strip Search. Day 7 will long be remembered as a physically intense day of the show, one that ultimately pitted the tiny and hilarious Monica Ray against the talented, recently-kickstarted Lexxy Douglass.

Day 7 will also be remembered as the day Katie J Rice went motherflipping off on some fools, ping pong style.

The elimination matchup between Lexxy and Monica produced two legitimately great pieces, and for the first time, public opinion seems truly split. In our recap, That Thing You Like goes deep into the issues from the last three episodes. Did the ping pong episodes work? How could Khoo really fall that far in a ping pong draft? And is it right that the show might always favour solid joke construction, or is there room in the contest for thought-provoking, emotional work?

Plus, updated STRIP SEARCH POWER RANKINGS.

And really, just draft Robert Khoo you guys. I mean, seriously.

TTYL #5 – Strip Search (Day Six)

Strip Search - Abby Howard and Erika MoenThat Thing You Like is ALL ABOUT Penny Arcade’s Strip Search! #StripSearch, you guys. Day #6 saw a showdown between the tangential-one, Abby Howard, and the webcomics badass / normative-definition-of-virginity-defier, Erika Moen.

And it was a doozy. A barnburner. A brouhaha, even.

Abby and Erika are both uniquely awesome, and their trial-by-art made for the hands-down best episode of Strip Search to date. But day six brought us a metric tonne of things to discuss: Why does the internet hate go-karting? Why is seeing people deal with the business-side of art so compelling? Is Tavis a bad person now? We answer all these questions, plus pitch the KHOO & SUNTER POWER HOUR.

And also Kris Straub. We heart you, Kris Straub.

TTYL #3 – Strip Search (Day Five)

Amy and Maki

That Thing You Like‘s coverage of Penny Arcade’s Strip Search continues! Elimination #5 pitted the refreshingly candid Amy T. Falcone against the pineappled-visage of Maki Naro. Also, I’ve come to think of Maki as a one-word, Prince type figure, so I had to look up his name to write this intro paragraph.

I digress.

It was an excellent elimination episode featuring two favourites, and Chris and myself (Brian) discuss all the news that’s fit to podcast. How can Katie be so awesome with clay? Is it actually clay or plasticine? What made the booth display challenge so compelling? And, of course, what went down in the elimination thunder-dome?

TTYL #1 – Strip Search (Elimination #4 Recap)

Image

Podcasts. What are they? How do they help us understand the human condition? Since FDR first coined the term in 1936 while speaking to a nation of poor, jobless people, podcasts have captured the imagination of pretty much the whole dang world.

That Thing You Like is a new podcast featuring myself (Brian Shirlaw) and Chris Baxter; two men whose combination of free time and communication degrees make them uniquely qualified to think about things and then talk about them. Catch That Thing You Like fever.

In the first episode, we discuss the hit Penny Arcade webseries, Strip Search.

What makes watching a bunch of introverts trapped in a house so compelling? Who are our favourites so far? Who tops our official TTYL Strip Search Power Rankings after four eliminations? Fair warning: We spoil the crap out of everything up to “Elimination #4”.
