LILO and STITCH (with Erika Moen!): An Underrated, Progressive Classic

Disney’s LILO and STITCH is an unheralded classic! And we’re joined by ERIKA MOEN (Oh Joy Sex Toy! DAR! Bucko!) to celebrate it!

The three of us talk about what the movie meant to our 16 year old selves, what it means to us now, and how it beautifully tells the story of outsiders building their own family. Plus, we discuss its great representation of women of color, and its respect for authentic Hawaiian culture. Also, NUCLEAR BLOOD FAMILY.

We were absolutely delighted to be joined once again by Erika, especially after an attempted Emperor’s New Groove podcast that… didn’t record. But this one DID record. So enjoy it! Erika’s the smartest and best, and if you don’t already read it, make sure you check out every tuesday! You can also support her stellar, sex positive cartooning on Patreon! Plus, find her collected works at Do all of those things – you won’t regret it.

TTYL Podcast #17 – Erika Moen!

That Thing You Like Erika Moen - Oh Joy Sex Toy

That Thing You Like continues to line up all-star guests! On this week’s episode, we were thrilled to be joined by the fantastically talented Erika Moen! Erika is legitimately one of the best cartoonists working today, web or otherwise. She is also possibly the nicest, most charming person alive. ENJOY THE INTERVIEW, BROS.

Click Here to Subscribe! – We may not be as NSFW as Erika, but we’ll try! Butts. BUTTS. BUTTS YOU GUYS.

Or, listen to the episode here:

Erika is a true comics badass and recently celebrated her 15th year of putting comics on the internet! If you haven’t read her work, you’re missing out. Missing out to the point where I question your life choices. Do yourself a favour – go spend a week or two reading DAR!, Bucko and the newly launched Oh Joy, Sex Toy! It’s okay. The podcast will be here when you get back.

If you HAVE read Erika’s work (or are just returning to this blog after your two week all-Erika-all-the-time comic fest), this interview will be a treat. We talk about Erika’s early love of comics, getting started at age 15, and the way both positive and negative comments influenced her decision to move on from DAR. Of course, we also talk a TON about Strip Search, and Erika doesn’t hold back on her experiences in the house, including how she would have handled the final challenge. She also talks about a NAKED HOT TUB BRAWL.

I wonder which sentence in that paragraph grabbed your attention?

Erika also discusses her future plans to release a sex-ed book that she considers her magnum opus, plus her favourite Adventure Time character. Sex AND Adventure Time! It’s just like that creepy corner of the internet you keep having nightmares about.

TTYL Podcast #10 – Strip Search Day 8

Abby Howard, Tavis Maiden - Strip Search Day 8 podcast

Strip Search continues to get the deluxe podcast treatment on That Thing You Like. Day 8 delivered a nail-biting, edge-of-your-seat elimination matchup: The talented, hat-and-beard wearing Tavis Maiden versus the dinosaur enthusiast / young gun Abby Howard. It was a battle of two talents, as each artist aimed to prove their dominance by showing off their D*.

(*delightful comics.)

Day 8 was a day of foot racing. A day of Presidential signature forging. And ultimately, a day of laughing. Pee-your-pants, bust yo’ gut, cat-fuelled laughter. One of the elimcomics is the talk of the interwebs, and we go next level on what it means for the competition.

Sadly, because of the nature of the show, it was also a day where somebody bade their Strip Search compatriots a sincere goodbye. With this week’s elimination, we’re down to the FINAL FOUR. IN ALL CAPS. BECAUSE SERIOUS BUSINESS. Listen as we break down all of the moments and challenges of day 8, including our love of Loading Ready Run’s newly-pointed interview questions.

Plus, as That Thing You Like is wont to do, we predict the future of each artist in our official Strip Search POWER RANKINGS. We rank, and we do it with power.

BONUS: We got to meet #TeamAmErika at Vancouver Comics and Arts Fest this weekend! If you ever meet them, a warning: Amy and Erika are the nicest human beings. Prepare yourself for their NICENESS.

TTYL #5 – Strip Search (Day Six)

Strip Search - Abby Howard and Erika MoenThat Thing You Like is ALL ABOUT Penny Arcade’s Strip Search! #StripSearch, you guys. Day #6 saw a showdown between the tangential-one, Abby Howard, and the webcomics badass / normative-definition-of-virginity-defier, Erika Moen.

And it was a doozy. A barnburner. A brouhaha, even.

Abby and Erika are both uniquely awesome, and their trial-by-art made for the hands-down best episode of Strip Search to date. But day six brought us a metric tonne of things to discuss: Why does the internet hate go-karting? Why is seeing people deal with the business-side of art so compelling? Is Tavis a bad person now? We answer all these questions, plus pitch the KHOO & SUNTER POWER HOUR.

And also Kris Straub. We heart you, Kris Straub.
