TY HALLEY on comics, creativity, and #CancelTrees – That Thing You Like #55

Ty Halley Interview podcast

TY HALLEY is a webcomics and #StripSearch luminary! If you haven’t read his work yet, we’d recommend taking some time to enjoy The Secret Life of a Journal Comic, his work as a writer on Penny Arcade / Scott Kurtz’s The Trenchesand his recently resurrected That’s Inhuman. But aside from that, if you like clever people having clever conversations, talking about how journal comics can tap into truths of the human experience, and discussions about TAKING DOWN THE GOVERNMENT, this is the podcast for you!

But seriously. Ty is awesome. Everyone should follow him on Twitter, and read his comics! And also, listen to how smart and hilarious he is on this pod.

  1. Congrats on one year of podcasting goodness!

I was re-listening to an earlier episode and one of you said that you loved hearing about when you introduce someone to a thing that you love. Because of this podcast, I have consumed the following media:

Heartthrob by Tegan and Sara (love it), Various music by Chrvrches (love it), Frozen, (love it), Attack on Titan (not a fan), Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (from the Edgar Wright podcast, loved it), Adventure Time (not a fan, but when I have kids, they’re definitely going to be watching it), True Detective (a fan of the first half, not a fan of the later episodes and the wrap-up), and Happy Endings.

Thank you for discussing and analyzing popular media in a thoughtful way, being a great example of the “two dudes talking” genre of podcasts, and making my commute more enjoyable. But, more than anything else, thank you for introducing my wife and me to Happy Endings. Our lives are immeasurably better now that we have this in our life.

    • Dear PUV (PotatoUtilityVehicle),

We are SUPER glad you’ve gotten into so much from the show! It truly does mean the world to us – it’s a great feeling to know that in any way, people have enjoyed the recorded discussion of two friends over the past year. A HUGE thank you right back for your incredibly nice, thoughtful comment!

And if you ever have any other thoughts about an episode’s topic, don’t hold back! We also love hearing what others think, where they agree/disagree with us, etc. ❤

And yes, Happy Endings is the realness forever. It is EVERYTHING.

      – Brian
